Premier Coal has an extensive training program for its operational requirements. On the job training occurs for all the operators of large mining equipment with trained experienced instructors.
School and tertiary student groups are hosted for educational presentations and tours of the operations and rehabilitation areas.
Premier Coal provides work experience to high school/college and TAFE students from the south-west and paid vacation employment to tertiary students. We have a partnership with the Collie High School, through an Industry Reference Group, to provide support for vocational engineering trades students. We will continue to provide work experience opportunities as well as provide some financial support for uniforms, medical expenses, advertising and prizes and awards.
Production Traineeship in Surface Coal Mining Operations is ongoing with two trainees engaged in an 18 month trial program that will culminate in them working full-time in open pit operations for the last six months of their tenure.
We participate in aboriginal cultural awareness workshops by local Noongar people which are attended by employees. A local aboriginal is continuing a four year apprenticeship with Premier Coal.
We continue to offer apprenticeships and in most years, 16 apprentices ranging from first to fourth year students are employed.
